Devon joined the Whirika team in early 2025, bringing with her a background in corporate social and environmental responsibility. Originally from Seattle, Washington, she moved to Ōtepoti in 2023 to study — and hasn’t looked back since.
She began her career helping companies design and deploy grant programs that funded innovative environmental solutions. Over time, her focus shifted from corporate philanthropy toward sustainability, and she has spent the past few years leading the development of sustainability strategies, conducting carbon footprint assessments, guiding B Corp certifications, and producing sustainability reports.
After completing her studies at the University of Otago, Devon was determined to find meaningful local mahi that would deepen her connection to the region. She first worked with Whirika as a contractor, supporting the rollout of WasteNet’s Bin Inspection program across Southland. Now a full-fledged member of the team, she supports project development and leads communications for Whirika and its clients.
Devon brings a thoughtful, systems-level approach to her work, grounded in a passion for making sustainability practical, people-centered, and place-based. Outside of work, she enjoys trail running, pottery, and spending time with her whānau — especially her itty-bitty nieces and nephews.
